5 Teeth Brushing Tips from a Local Dentist

5 Tips for Healthy Teeth

1. Brush your teeth after every meal and before bed. Make this a part of your child’s routine every night. This will insure a healthy habit for your child.

2. Take your time! Spend at least 2 minutes brushing. There are several apps that do a countdown for younger children, or use an egg timer for older children. (Disney magic timer is available at the App store or Google Play)

3. Use a soft bristle toothbrush and fluoride tooth paste. No need to press your brush to clean your teeth, gentle small circular motion around each tooth does the job. And replace your tooth brush every 3 months or after an illness.

4. Avoid sugary snacks especially chewy sticky ones. Try fruits, veggies and sugar free gum. It’s hard to avoid all sugary snacks so as soon as possible brush your teeth, or rinse your mouth with water if brushing cannot be done right away. We also recommend sugar free gum that contains Xylitol.

5. Last but not least see your dentist twice a year. Nothing can replace a checkup from your dentist.

February is National Dental Health month. Thanks to my family's dentist, Dr. William Vigneux in Three Rivers for compiling these tips!
