5 Ways to Enjoy New Year's Eve with Kids

New Year's Eve is usually an adults only kind of holiday, but here are a few ways you can liven up the party with your kids!

1) Throw a Slumber Party

Make it a Slumber Party!   You can purchase some new pajamas or wear your special Christmas Jammies from last week.   Build a tent in the living room with sheets, get out the sleeping bags and pillows.  Make sure to pick out a fun family movie, pop the corn and plan a special fun breakfast for the morning!

2) Dress Up

Want to get a little more fancy than a slumber party?  Invite the kids to dress up in their fancy party clothes. Get out the fancy party hats, beaded necklaces and noisy horns (if you're brave) and then make a fun photo booth with props and a sheet for a background.

3) Drop Balloons

Balloons are always an inexpensive fun thing to break out at a party.  A balloon drop is perfect for New Year's Eve. Suspend a bunch of balloons in a sheet, net or tablecloth above the room, then release them at a set time. A fun twist on this is to fill some of the balloons with a coin or dollar before you blow them up, and then have the kids pop them to find the special treats.

4) Have a Early Midnight

Most kids aren't able to stay up until midnight, so instead of waiting for clocks to strike midnight, do a countdown a little earlier instead. The kids will head off to bed satisfied they were able to participate, and then parents can stay up to celebrate the real midnight.

5)Make it a Game Marathon

If the kids insist on staying up all night, they'll need fun activities to keep them busy and stop asking you how long until midnight.   Board Games can take hours to complete and usually keep the kids actively engaged. The Game of Life and Monopoly are nice long games, Apples to Apples is fun for the preteens and What Do You Meme is a great option for those older teens.
