Learn about becoming a foster parent

Is there room in your heart and home for a foster child? Foster parents regularly share the same experience: being a foster parent is life-changing. When you provide a foster home for a child, you don't just provide a place for a child to sleep and grow. You provide a family. You provide safety and security. You provide stability that is crucial to a child's well-being and development.

Being a foster parent comes with its own unique challenges, but providing foster care is also rewarding in many ways. You and your children will be able to stretch your kindness, acceptance and empathy to meet the emotional needs of children who may have experienced neglect and trauma.

The Department of Children and Families is actively recruiting foster parents for children in your community.  DCF is searching for individuals or families with the love and patience to help foster children. You can be single, married, partnered, divorced or widowed.   You can own your home or rent.

DCF's goal is to provide foster children with a supportive and healing environment in a home in their own community until they can be reunited with their families or another plan can be made on their behalf. The rewards of providing daily care, guidance and acceptance are immeasurable.
