As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp, the transition from autumn to winter invites a season of cozy reading, especially for children. For toddlers, “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn” by Kenard Pak offers gentle, lyrical text and beautiful illustrations that capture the magic of the changing seasons. Another wonderful option is “We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt” by Steve Metzger, perfect for engaging young explorers in the joys of an outdoor adventure amidst colorful fall leaves.

For preschoolers and early readers, “Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” by Julia Rawlinson presents a heartwarming tale about a little fox witnessing the transition of the trees, making it both a comforting and educational read. “The Little Yellow Leaf” by Carin Berger is another beautiful story about the beauty of fall and the courage to face change.

As children grow into pre-teens, chapter books like “The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street” by Karina Yan Glaser provide a cozy, family-centric tale set in the chilly autumn of New York, while Jean Craighead George’s “My Side of the Mountain” offers an adventurous take on survival and self-discovery in nature. Both stories are perfect for rainy afternoons or cozy evenings.

These books not only celebrate nature and the beauty of autumn but also provide comfort and warmth, making them ideal companions as we transition from the harvest season into winter’s quiet calm.
